Have You Discovered Suppressed Histories Archives Yet?
Since discovering the incredible work of feminist historian and artist Max Dashu, I enjoy immersing myself in articles and visual presentations on the Suppressed Histories Archives. As women, we rarely see ourselves in ancient history as more than mothers, wives and other types of companions and caretakers for men. Dashu's work introduces us to the Priestesses, Shamans, Warriors, Shapeshifters, Medicine Women and Seeresses. Autumn is the perfect season to go back to our ancient roots and explore a vast range of strange and fascinating history ranging from demonologists in the witch hunts to protective mantles and sacred belts.
"Max Dashu founded the Suppressed Histories Archives in January of 1970 to research and document women's history on a global scale. She wanted to find out if there were any societies in the world where women were free, and to understand how systems of domination establish and perpetuate themselves. Since then she has built a collection of some 50,000 images and 100 visual presentations, as well as producing numerous articles, photo essays, books, and videos fleshing out the cultural heritages that have been hidden from us" (Dashu, n.d.).
WMST's Libraria Hysteria is back, and better than ever. Check out our ever-growing collection of useful, maybe not useful for you, and sometimes silly links here!
Why do we call it Libraria Hysteria? Because it sounds cool and also to bring attention to "hysteria" and the ways it harms, and continues to harm, women and girls. Click here to learn more.
